Seungyoon appeared on the KBS music-variety show, War of Villains, Episodes 7, 11, 13 and 14 aired on June 6, July 4, July 18, July 25 of 2020 respectively.
Lee Sangmin who heard Seungyoon sing as a panelist during his King of Masked Singer reign as Joo Yoon Bal, invited him to the show to collaborate with Song Changsik, who is 47 years older than Seungyoon! His was a vision of a collaborative stage between the Legendary Old King X New Masked King.

In Episode 7, Seungyoon was introduced to the legendary singer Song Changsik over a BBQ dinner along with the rest of the show’s cast: Boom, Moon Seyoon and Kim Joonhyun.
Right off the bat Seungyoon established himself as a serious musician in Song Changsik’s eyes by introducing himself by singing SCS’s Tobacco Shop Lady. He follows it up with gutsy behaviour of asking of Song Changsik’s phone number and allowance to call him ‘Hyung‘ !
We get a collaborative cover of SCS’s We Are between SCS X KSY. Then to change things up, the cast decide to do the Zico’s popular Any Song Challenge with the 74 year old Song Changsik!
Yoon also performed Hyukoh’s Tomboy & jammed with Song Changsik and Ham Chunho (one of the best guitarists of Korea) to Instinctively! The 3 collaborated to sing ‘My Guitar Story‘. English Subs:

With the resoundingly successful collaboration between Kang Seungyoon X Song Changsik, they were invited to Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook along with Song Gain, the famous trot singer. Episode 11 shows the detailed story, practices and behind-the-scenes as these three legendary singers in their own domains come together to perform on stage.
We start of with some fun informal jamming session between Seungyoon, Song Gain and Ham Chumho to Rain’s Gang, Sophistry and Scars deeper than Love. Then Seungyoon temps for Song Changsik during stage practice with Ham Chunho for Tobacco Shop Lady & the simply mind-blowing Song Gain for Whale Hunting. Also we see behind-the-scenes of the birth of Rapper Song Changsik for Instinctively performance on Yoon’s insistence!
Cute show with Yoon in a hanbok, his lovely dynamics with the elder generation, his calling-SCS-‘Hyung’ desire and being ragged about his messy guitar stickers! 🙂 English Subs

War of Villains is a gift that keeps on giving !! This episode, Seungyoon got to meet his role-model & Rock legend, YB’s Yoon Dohyun and YB’s guitarist, Heo Jun.
After his initial disbelief, Seungyoon recalls his first interaction with the Yoon Dohyun and explains how he looks up and considers him his role model. Yoon Dohyun also shared that he really enojoyed Yoon’s cover of Blue Whale on KOMS. As Yoon cutely gushes about this compliment, he is requested to sing Blue Whale in front of his idol and then beautifully covers another masterpiece from YB’s repertoire, Love Two.
The episode also treated us with a mind-blowing collaboration of Song Gain x Yoon Dohyun x Kang Seungyoon for the song A Flying Butterfly! There was even a Tobacco Shop Lady relay that transpired with Song Changsik, Yoon Dohyun and Seungyoon each performing their own versions of the song. Amazing really!

This was the last episode of War of Villains — We got such beautiful covers and collaborations we would never have expected to see otherwise – across genres and across nearly half-a-century of age gap, truly transcending generations! Truly made us abuse the adjective ‘mind-blowing‘ so often for their performances! We are so grateful for Seungyoon to have been given such a lovely opportunity to interact with his role models and touch back on his Guitar & Rock roots. Season-2 juseyoo please !!
