Genie Tutorial

Genie is considered the second biggest music service provider in Korea with a market share of about 24%. Its chart is updated in real-time, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly and counts 50% download + 50% streaming. Chart freezes from 1AM KST to 7AM KST everyday but streams are still counted within this time period..

Currently, Genie requires its user to have a Korean phone number to sign up, so it’s impossible for GICs to create new accounts. The below tutorial is made for ICs with active accounts or those with rented verified accounts.
(Make sure you have bought your rental account & pass! Make use of these Regional Group Orders for Genie. We recommend buying the 30 days unlimited pass or alternatively the 300 streams pass which you can use to stream the title song once an hour).

Genie Download & Setup

ANDROID:
#1: Need to download APK – cannot download from PlayStore: APK Link
“This type of file can harm your device. Do you want to keep anyway?” => Yes
#2: Allow APK installation: Open downloaded file
“For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source” > Settings > Check “Allow from this source”
#3: Install App: Open APK file
“Do you want to install this application?” => Install > Open > Agree to Terms of Use & permission (In blue highlight at lower right side)
> “Allow Genie to make & manage phone calls?” Yes > “Allow Genie to access media on device?” > “Yes”

iOS:
#1: VPN to South Korean IP address (Free VPN service: VielduckVPN, OpenVPN) or Change App Store country to South Korea.
#2: Install Genie app from Korean Apple App Store: Genie Link

Sign in & Check Account

#1: Sign in with your SNS account: Kakaotalk, Facebook or Twitter. (If rental accounts are being used – use details given by seller)

#2. Check if your account is active: The account in pics has a valid subscription to a streaming package. D-9 shows it has 9 days left till expiry. In case your account is not subscribed to any streaming package, but the phrase 인증 완료 (verified) is seen, it means your account is still active.

Streaming passes can only be added to account via the website
#1: Navigate to website: genie.co.kor & Sign in with your account. Click on ‘Register your Gift Certificate’
