At just 17-years of age, on February 9, 2011, Kang Seungyoon won the Rookie of the Year at the 2010 Gaon Music Chart Awards ceremony for his legendary single ‘Instinctively’.
As a contestant on MNET’s Superstar K2, Seungyoon sang a cover of Yoon Jong Shin’s Instinctively to compete to get into the Top 3 of Superstar K2. Although Seungyoon was eliminated in this round, his song was an instant hit! It was released as a digital single with Swings featuring on the track on guitar on October 13, 2011 and immediately became the number-one hit single in South Korea, selling almost 2 million digital copies! The song even won him the Rookie of the Month (October) at the Cyworld Digital Music Awards earning him the moniker of ‘Monster Rookie‘.
Seungyoon ended up placing 4th on Superstar K2, but in terms of fame and popularity of songs, Seungyoon was the clear winner !!
